Arrack prices up by 40% ; beer up by 15%!
Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe says that the manufacturing companies have increased the prices of liquor due to the increase of production costs.
He said that the approval of the Excise Department was not required as the price increase was due to production costs and such approval is needed only if taxes are increased.
Noting that companies have increased liquor and beer prices by 15% and 40%respectively, he said that these companies should clarify to the Excise Department on how the prices were increased.
