In order to overcome the prevalent crisis in Sri Lanka, one should work with the country’s well being in mind, while halting nepotism among friends and family, a Buddist Thera in the US had stated.

Ven. Kurundankulame Shantha Sobhana Thera, currently incumbent at a Buddhist Vihara in Los Angeles, US, has preached this in a video message to the President, Prime minister and others over the prevalent crisis in the country.

Only the countries which have taken decisions for the wellbeing of the country and its citizens while disregarding all personal opinions, have moved forward, the Thera points out.

If this is followed, it will earn everyone’s respect, otherwise, the country will be dragged into a worse crisis, the Thera had further noted.

Noting that a high jumper takes a few steps back before making a leap, the Thera says that in order to overcome this crisis, the President should similarly take a few steps back and give the chance to intelligent, young leaders.

“Just like high jumpers who take a few steps back before making a leap, I urge the President to take several steps back. Because you cannot do this. Not only you, the current Cabinet of ministers cannot do this either. The crisis is deepening and the entire country is at peril. Therefore, as a true leader, give the chance to intelligent and capable persons in other parties… Think of the country and step away for a bit. Everyone will respect you for that. Otherwise, everyone in the country will be forced to face a massive crisis.”
