Ranil-Basil lock horns over IMF report at All party conference
Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa had a heated exchange of words at the All-Party Conference convened by the President today (23).
The reason for the heated argument arose when the former prime minister requested the government to submit the IMF’s draft report as he was informed that the report in its entirety was submitted to the government of Sri Lanka. However, Basil Rajapaksa had repeatedly said he had not received one.
However, when Wickremasinghe urged that the IMF representatives be summoned to the conference to ascertain the matter, the Finance Minister Rajapaksa admitted that he had received a draft of it but he could not give it.At this point Ranil Wickremesinghe pointed out that the finance minister had not admitted until this point that he had even received the draft.
He also added to provide it not to him but to the parliament.
