Female to be arrested over rowdiness at Rugby match

S. Thomas’ College beat Trinity College to emerge victorious 17-14 and regain the Canon R.S. de Saram Rugby Shield at Havelock Park on the 26th.However, the game was marred by an ugly incident after the final whistle.

Unfortunately, Trinity supporters, notably families, had manhandled the referee and a female was seen boxing his ears.

Footage of the incident has been making rounds on social media since, with many rebuking the incident.

Speaking to ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’, chairman of the Sri Lanka Society of Rugby Football Referees (SLSRFR) – Dinka Peiris said that the assaulted referee has lodged a complaint with the Narahenpita police in this regard.He added that the police is to obtain a statement from the aforementioned female before Thursday this week and that the police have given their word to arrest her if she does not appear for the statement.
