Mirihana protest : 31 suspects granted bail
The Nugegoda Chief Magistrate – Prasanna Alwis today (05) ordered to release 31 persons who were remanded over the recent protest in Mirihana.
These 31 suspects were produced before an identification parade and witnesses were unable to identify any of them.
Therefore, the magistrate ordered to release all the suspects on bail.
Lawyers who appeared on behalf of the suspects urged to deliver justice on the suspects as they were assaulted and some had lost their belongings. Responding, the Magistrate ordered to produce a report to courts after conducting a proper investigation in this regard.When the police requested the court to order the suspects not to commit such acts again, the magistrate pointed out that issuing such an order would violate the presumption of their innocence.
