Supreme Court rejects PUCSL petition regarding power supply

The Supreme Court has rejected a petition filed by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka, calling for relevant authorities to provide an uninterrupted power supply to the public.

The order was issued by a bench comprising of judges Gamini Amarasena, AHMD Nawas and Mahinda Samayawardene.The PUCSL lodged a petition calling for the Supreme Court to issue an order to the Minister of Power and the Secretary to the relevant Ministry calling for the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to provide fuel to the CEB to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.

The petition called for the Supreme Court to pronounce that the public’s fundamental rights have been violated through power cuts imposed on the public due to the fuel shortage in the country.The CEB, Ministry of Power and the Finance Ministry have been cited as respondents in the petition.
