MANY YOUNGSTERS APPLY FOR PASSPORTS WITH A VIEW TO SAY GOOD BYE TO NATIVE SRI LANKA

Even more young Lankans going overseas now!

The number of young Sri Lankans applying for passports to leave the country has increased by 30% – 40%, sources from the Department of Immigration and Emigration states.

The statistics have increased as Sri Lanka struggles through a political and economic crisis.

The Department says that inquiries on obtaining passports have simultaneously increased.

Meanwhile, reports say that selling off of assets such as vehicles and houses too, have increased around the country and it is learnt that this is being done with the intention of raising funds to go overseas.An investigation has revealed that a large number of Sri Lankans currently living abroad have sponsored their close kin to migrate and many are also looking for such sponsorship opportunities.
