STATE OF EMERGENCY NOT IN FAVOUR OF DIPLOMATIC COMMUNITY

Diplomatic community responds to State of Emergency

The diplomatic community and international organisations have responded to the imposing of a State of Emergency in Sri Lanka.
The European Union (EU) has said that the state of emergency will “certainly not help solving the country’s difficulties and could have a counterproductive effect”
“A month of peaceful demonstrations has shown how Sri Lankan citizens fully enjoy their right to freedom of expression in the oldest democracy in South Asia. State of emergency will certainly not help solving the country’s difficulties and could have a counterproductive effect!,” the EU’s Sri Lankan handle has tweeted.
