The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCAL) said the mobile service providers have increased phone and internet charges without seeking TRCSL approval.TRCSL Deputy Director Indrajith Handapangoda said the relevant companies have not even applied for such a price revision so far.
He said that he also received text messages from those companies stating that phone and internet charges have been revised. Accordingly, Mr. Handapangoda said that the TRCSL will take steps to send letters to these companies.
Telecom operators said that they will revise their phone and internet charges with effect from today (5) due to the Social Security Contribution Levy (SSCL). Accordingly, the new tax percentage of 2.5% has been added to all prepaid, postpaid packages and Pay TV services and the fees have been revised accordingly.
