Four past schoolboy cricketers in Lankan T20 World Cup squad
The number of the past Observer Schoolboy Cricketers main award winners in the current Sri Lanka team touring Australia for the T20 World Cup has gone up to four with their replacement call for injured players.
With the recalling of 2012 Observer Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Niroshan Dickwella, the past Mega Event stars in Australia will now be four with Bhanuka Rajapaksa (winner in 2010 and 2011 as well), Kusal Mendis (2013 winner) and Charith Asalanka (winner of 2015 and 2016).
Sri Lanka’s first and the leading school cricket awards ceremony – the Observer SLT Mobitel School Cricketers of the Year show will hold its 44th selection meeting in Colombo next week.
All arrangements have been made to host the grand selection committee meeting to be held at Galadari Hotel on November 2. The 18-member selection committee, comprising top officials of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA), Sri Lanka Umpires and Scorers Association and its Central and Southern Association will meet on November 2 to pick the 54 award winners, including the 44th Observer SLT Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of Year and the Schoolgirl Cricketer of Year.
They will be accompanied by the official of the batsman.com CEO Kumara Gamhewage, who will be the official statistics provider for the Observer SLT Mobitel School Cricketers of Year as well as the SLSCA. Gamhewage has closely been working with the Sunday Observer – ever since he formed the popular website which gives a complete picture on school cricket statistics.
The Most Popular winners of the 44th Observer SLT Mobitel School Cricketers of Year have already been found. Dunith Wellalage of St. Joseph’s College emerged the Observer SLT Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2022. Having completed a superb final season for St. Joseph’s, he climbed to the top most level, while still being a 19-plus schoolboy.
When the voting for the most popular contests concluded last month, Wellalage and Chushadi Kaushalya headed the respective Observer SLT Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy and Schoolgirl Cricketers of the Year 2022 with convincing margins.
