A proposal to abolish all taxes on equipment imported for the use of disabled and differently-abled citizens will be presented to Parliament this week, it was reported.
Ratnapura District MP Gamini Waleboda who is also the Chairman of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Alleviating the Impact of the Economic Crisis has told this to ‘Aruna’ newspaper.
He has said that all the Customs-related levies, value added and social security taxes imposed on these devices are unfair to the disabled and the differently-abled.
It was said that 86 devices including prosthetic legs, prosthetic arms, white canes and hearing aids are used by disabled and differently-abled citizens.
