I was delighted to learn that my batting partner, friend, and teammate, Ari, will be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame tomorrow at the Semi Finals in India. In my view, I do not believe there is anyone more deserving of this recognition. Your contribution and dedication to the game of cricket has been unparalleled.

Not everyone was fortunate enough to witness your emergence into the game of cricket, and I consider myself one of the lucky few who had the pleasure to witness your evolution from a

schoolboy cricketer to one of the greatest batsmen of all time.

You were an integral part of our team, but more so of my support system. I am grateful to have had you, Gura, Roshan, and Hashan as the seniors on my team who supported me and backed me up when required.

Whether it was you captaining or me, we always had a mutual respect for one another, and that relationship we had has long since continued even off the field. We are, and have always been family.

I truly believe that we will not see a more talented batsman in our lifetime, and I have had the unique privilege to witness the greatness that is Aravinda De Silva, from 22 yards, at the non-striker’s end.

I wish you all the very best for the future.
