Pathum Nissanka entered the cricket record books today (09 February 2024) after becoming the first player from the nation to score a double century in One Day International (ODI) cricket.
The young opener smashed a magnificent 210* runs from just 139 balls to power Sri Lanka to a massive total of 381 runs in the first ODI against Afghanistan at the Pallekele stadium in Kandy.
Previously it was Sanath Jayasuriya who held the record of the highest ODI score at a match by a Sri Lankan after scoring 189 against India in 2000.
This historic feat puts Nissanka in an elite club of batsmen who have crossed the 200-run mark in ODIs such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Chris Gayle.
