Transport service providers have reacted to the fuel price revision announced by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) last evening.

Accordingly, the price of Petrol Octane 92 was reduced by Rs. 13 to Rs. 355 per litre, while Auto Diesel was reduced by Rs. 16 to Rs. 317 per litre.

However, transport service providers have said that the recent revision is not sufficient to reduce bus fares or three-wheeler fares.

Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne said that the revision was not sufficient to reduce bus fares.

“However, if the government implements the proposed travel card system, we are ready to reduce bus fares immediately,” he said.

The Inter-Provincial Private Bus Association Secretary, Anjana Priyanjith said that although the diesel price has decreased by Rs. 16, it has not met the 4% reduction required by the fuel price revision policy.

He said a fare revision will be considered if diesel is sold at  Rs. 310 per litre.

Meanwhile, the All-Island Three-Wheeler Drivers’ Union President, Lalith Dharmasekera, said the petrol price revision does not afford three-wheel drivers the ability to reduce fares, stating that it is not practical to do so.
