Short-term power cuts possible as fuel being pumped to Kelanitissa

There could be short-term power interruptions in several areas until fuel pumping at the Kelanitissa Power Station is completed, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Chairman M.M.C. Ferdinando said.
He told the fuel pumping is underway and the Kelanitissa Power Station and the plant which had shut down would be restarted after 5.00 p.m.
“The CEB is currently in a situation of having power interruptions but we are looking for solutions to provide an uninterrupted power supply for our customers amid the fuel crisis. The hydro-power generation’s water levels are dwindling. We are moving into a situation like a drought season,” he said.
“The country might not get rain until May. In that case, the hydro-power generation would be reduced. Currently, we are facing a fuel crisis. We already received fuel shipments, but there were issues with unloading the stocks due to a lack of dollars in the treasury,” he added.
