Sri Lanka’s October tourist arrivals surge despite travel advisories
Sri Lanka recorded 135,907 tourist arrivals in October, marking a nearly 25% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Statistics from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) show that 1,620,715 tourists arrived in the country from January 1 to October 31, 2024, already surpassing the total arrivals for all of last year, which stood at 1,487,303.
India remains the top source market, with 36,417 tourists arriving from there in October 2024, representing a 26.8% share of the total.
October also saw an increase in arrivals compared to September 2024, continuing an impressive upward trend despite travel advisories issued by the United States and several other countries against travel to Arugambay, citing ‘credible’ terror threats (NewsWire)
