Deadline for Outstanding Taxes Set for January 26
The Inland Revenue Department has announced that all outstanding taxes for the 2023/2024 assessment year must be paid by January 26, 2025.
Commissioner General Sepalika Chandrasekara warned that individuals and companies missing this deadline will lose eligibility for penalty relief. Field surveys and legal measures are underway to recover unpaid self-assessment and outstanding taxes.
From January 2025, legal action will include the seizure of bank accounts without prior notice and potential criminal charges for non-compliance.
