Three-wheeler accessory manufacturers meet Police to address concerns
Representatives of Sri Lanka’s three-wheeler accessory manufacturing sector met with senior police officials at Police Headquarters on Wednesday (15) to discuss recent challenges impacting their industry.
During the meeting with Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) manufacturers and sales agents voiced concerns over declining income and sales, attributing these issues to recent events and regulatory changes.
Manufacturers highlighted difficulties stemming from government regulations affecting the production and sale of spare parts and accessories.
Specific concerns were raised regarding legal frameworks introduced under Gazette 22/40/37 in 2021, which set standards for three-wheeler parts.
Police officials assured participants that legal accessories, provided they do not compromise safety, would not be subject to removal. Police officials also said that a three-month grace period will be provided for three-wheeler operators to align their vehicle fittings with the regulations. Operators will be educated on compliance requirements during this period, they added.
The Sri Lanka Police said that their objective is not to harm the livelihoods of manufacturers and sales agents but to uphold road safety for the general public. (Newswire)
