Struggle surpassed 53 hartal – Vasu
Democratic Left Front leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara said that the mass protests taking place throughout the country have surpassed the 1953 hartal.
He said that during the 1953 hartal, about 11 workers were killed in clashes with the police, but the current protests have not taken such a serious situation.
However, in terms of public protests, the nature of the protest goes far beyond the hartal and is more widespread, he said.
Nanayakkara further stated that the protests against the present government are being carried out all over the country as a result of the economic hardships faced by the people and it is a good sign that the inclination towards conflict has been minimized during these protests.
