Operations of Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery suspended

Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said in Parliament today (07) that the operations of Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery have been suspended.

He said the decision was taken since the stock of the third crude oil ship brought to Sri Lanka could not be unloaded due to the shortage of foreign exchange.

However, the minister said that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) was in possession of adequate fuel stocks and therefore the people need not panic.

He also said the Central Bank has been releasing funds to the CPC weekly to purchase fuel and therefore fuel issuance will be done without any interruption.
