Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said in Parliament today that 74 schools Islandwide have been identified to have hazardous buildings and structures.

These schools include Thurston College, Colombo and Tangalle Balika Vidyalaya, he said.

He said this while making a special statement in Parliament regarding the tragic death of a 06-year-old schoolgirl at Weragoda Vidyalaya in Wellampitiya.

He said that authorities of these schools have been instructed to evacuate children from the buildings at risk and that alternative measures will be taken to accommodate the children until the buildings are renovated.
