Except for cars and tiles, everything else will be imported – Cabraal
Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal says that all non-essential items except vehicles and tiles are currently being imported.
He was speaking at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department today.
He also says that a large amount of foreign exchange will flow out of the country as a result.
He also said that importation of vehicles would be permitted once the inflow of foreign exchange into the country returns to normal.
However, Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal said he hoped that with the resurgence of tourism, large amounts of foreign exchange is bound to flow back into the country, and it would be possible to allow the re-import of vehicles once the economy stabilizes in the coming months.
