Fuel efficient vehicles for MPs
The Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs – Ananda Wijepala has stated that all MPs will be given fuel efficient vehicles instead of luxury ones, to minimise expenditure of taxpayer money.
He has said that the MPs will be able to use this vehicle until the end of their term.
However, MPs have not been provided vehicles upto this point. They were provided with a permit to import vehicles instead.
More than once, reports of these vehicle permits being sold to another party had sparked controversy.
MPs of the 9th parliament were not provided with this privilege due to the situation that prevailed in the country.
During his election campaign earlier this year, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had vowed to do away with this privilege under a NPP government.
