Birth certificates to be provided to unregistered children
The Government Information Department has announced an islandwide programme to issue birth certificates to children lacking them.
The programme conducted by the Department of Probation and Child Care Services and the Registrar General’s Department during this month seeks to assist children facing challenges due to the lack of a birth certificate.
Child Rights Promotion Officers will oversee the process.
Also, no charges will be applied for birth certificates issued in the month of October.
Parents or guardians of children without birth certificates have been advised to obtain the assistance of the child protection officers of their respective district secretariat.
