AMIDST EXTREME HEAT CAUTION BY OPHTHALMOLOGISTS ON HAZARDS TO EYES

Ophthalmologists caution public on sunlight hazards to eyes amidst extreme heat

Amidst the ongoing extreme heat in the country, ophthalmologists are issuing a warning about the potential hazards of sunlight exposure to the human eye.

Consultant Eye Surgeon Professor Madhuwanthi Dissanayake, representing the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Colombo, emphasizes the risks associated with direct sunlight, stating that it can damage delicate eye cells and potentially lead to vision problems.

Professor Dissanayake further alerts that this damage may accumulate over time, heightening the risk of developing cataracts.
