“National Anthem to be sung in Tamil at next Independence Day”
EPDP leader and Fisheries Minister – Douglas Devananda has said that the National Anthem will be sung again in Tamil at the 2023 Independence Day.
The event will mark 75 years since Sri Lanka gained Independence from the British.
The minister has said that he had suggested at this week’s Cabinet meeting on Monday (15) that the National Anthem should be sung in Tamil as well at the event and the Cabinet had agreed.
Noting that the practice of singing the Tamil version of the National Anthem began during the days of the ‘Good Governance’ government, the minister had pointed out that this was a great source of happiness for the Tamil and Muslim masses. However, this was abandoned during the era of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, he had further said.
