BAN ON IMPORTS TO BE REVIEWED EVERY TWO WEEKS-RAMESH

Import ban to be reviewed every 2 weeks

An import ban imposed in Sri Lanka will be reviewed every two weeks and amendments made as needed, cabinet spokesman Ramesh Pathirana stated.

Speaking at the Cabinet media briefing held today (13), he said that amendments to the list of items will be presented to parliament for approval.

The spokesman also acknowledged that the ban has impacted industries and created issues in obtaining raw materials and inputs.Last month, Sri Lanka banned the importation of over 300 items, which had affected industries and SMEs.

The banned items include dairy products, cosmetics, electrical goods, ships, aircraft, electrical and electronic goods and building
