“We have no fear or obligation” Basil speaks about Ranil
Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa declared that his party, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), supported President Ranil Wickremesinghe not out of fear or obligation.
Despite this assertive stance, Rajapaksa confirmed that the SLPP will continue to support Wickremesinghe’s presidency, although he did not clarify whether this backing would extend to the upcoming Presidential election.
Speaking at an event organized by SLPP MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena to mark his 27 years in politics, Rajapaksa emphasized the party’s commitment.
“Even when the SLPP chairman left the party, we decided that President Ranil was the one who could save the country at that time. We chose to support him then and will continue to do so.”
The event also saw the presence of former Presidents Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mahinda Rajapaksa.
