Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) national list MP – Professor Ranjith Bandara, is tipped to be the next chairman of the party, internal sources say.
He is said to be one of the closest confidants of SLPP founder – Basil Rajapaksa.The current SLPP Chairman – Prof. G. L. Peiris recently defected and is now functioning as an opposition MP.
Therefore, many in the SLPP feel that he should be replaced by another professor, reports add. Meanwhile, parliamentary sources also say that Prof. Bandara has also been nominated for the position of Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE).He is also currently working as a member of several parliamentary committees.
