NPP’s Bimal Rathnayake speaks about AKD’s swearing in plans
The National People’s Power (NPP) has made a final decision on the swearing-in ceremony of its party leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is predicted as the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election.
Speaking to the media, NPP member former MP Bimal Rathnayake said the party is confident that Anura Kumara Dissanayake has won the election and they are waiting for the official announcement from the election commission.
He further said that the party has decided to hold the swearing-in ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat.
Stating that the party does not have the power to determine the date and time for the event, Rathnayake said that it will only be decided after the National Election Commission officially announces the final results of the election.
“Whether the swearing-in ceremony will take place today evening or tomorrow, will be decided only after the National Election Commission officially announces the final results. The time of taking oaths will be an auspicious time for the nation,” he said.
The former MP also expressed confidence in the transparency of the vote-counting process.
Stating that the National Election Commission was doing its best to conduct a free and fair election, Rathnayake requested the public not to be concerned with claims of delays in issuing election results, as it was standard procedure.
