Some Ministries & state institutions face closure over lack of funds
It is reported that outstanding bills to contractors and suppliers of several ministries including Health, Education, Highways and Housing, have exceeded Rs. 200 billion, reports say.
Meanwhile, carrying out work in several departments and state owned corporations and boards, too have become a serious issue due to lack of funds, reports add.
‘Lankadeepa’ reports that according to secretaries of several key ministries, maintaining essential services of these institutions has become a serious problem due to this situation.It is learnt that in some state institutions, finding the necessary stationery for daily activities, as well as paying overtime allowances for essential employees, have become a serious issue.Therefore, continuing present projects, let alone kicking off new ones, have become a serious issue.
Payment of employee salaries in many government institutions has also become a serious issue.Due to non-release of funds from the two state banks, the paddy marketing board has also stopped buying paddy.
