An incident has been reported from Katupotha, Polpitiya area where an elderly woman believed to have drowned in a nearby lake was not actually dead.

After finding out that the 79-year-old woman was missing, her relatives have searched for her in the area with the help of area residents.

After recovering her crutches near the lake, they have found her laying in a marshy area of the lake, reportedly non-responsive and presumed dead.

Later, her relatives have informed the Police station, made relevant funeral arrangements and have been waiting for the Coroner to arrive to retrieve the body from the lake.

While waiting, onlookers have noticed the head of the woman moving and few volunteers have pulled her out of the lake, alive. The woman was later hospitalized for further treatment. (NewsWire)
