COURT ORDER TO BRIBERY COMMISSION ON ILLEGALLY IMPORTED LUXURY VEHICLES

Illegally imported luxury vehicles : Court order to Bribery Commission

 

 

The Bribery Commission has been instructed to release five out of 112 super luxury vehicles that had been taken into custody for being illegally imported to Sri Lanka depriving the nation of Rs. 07 billion in duties.

According to Lankadeepa newspaper, Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage on Friday (June 14) ordered for the vehicles to be returned to Sri Lanka Customs.

As per the order, the vehicles are to be handed over to the court after which they will be handed over to Sri Lanka Customs.

Presenting facts to the court, the Bribery Commission said Sri Lanka has been deprived of Rs. 300 million in duties due to the illegal imports of the five vehciles valued at over Rs. 600 million.

Taking into consideration the facts, the court further ordered the Customs Director General to present a complete report on the said vehicles to the court.
