67,000 MT rice imported, Customs collect Rs. 4.3 bn in taxes

The deadline for rice imports permitted by the government expired at midnight on Friday (Dec 20) with private importers bringing in 67,000 metric tones during the period.

Sri Lanka Customs said that it collected Rs. 4.3 billion in taxes on these imports.

The imported stocks included 28,500 metric tons of raw rice (Kekulu) and 38,500 metric tons of Nadu rice. Each kilogram of rice was taxed at Rs. 65.
