DAMAGE TO GOLDEN GATE KALYANI ESTIMATED TO RS 270 MILLION

Golden Gate Kalyani : Thieves damage estimated to Rs 270 million

 

The lighting system of the ‘Golden Gate Kalyani’ bridge, which was inaugurated in 2021, is no longer functioning due to extensive theft and damage to electric cables.

The Director General of the Road Development Authority (RDA) addressed this issue during a press briefing in Colombo on July 14th, revealing that the incurred loss amounts to approximately Rs. 270 million.

Moreover, the Director General expressed concern about similar incidents of theft on other highways such as Katunayake, Central, and Southern highways.

He urged the public to report any such thefts to the police by calling the hotline number 1969.

The ‘Golden Gate Kalyani’ bridge, which cost Rs. 50 billion, was officially opened to the public on November 21st, 2021.
