DEAD TURTLES ON DELFT BEACH

4 dead sea turtles found on Delft beach

The carcasses of four sea turtles were discovered along the Delft beach.

A total of 35 carcasses of sea turtles were discovered so far in 2023, The Department of Wildlife Conservation said.

31 sea turtles had washed up along the Western coastline, since August 22.

Three turtles with severe damage to the outer cover were also rescued. They were later directed for treatment.

The post-mortem examinations revealed that this is due to underwater explosions, The Department of Wildlife Conservation said.

A report on the matter has been submitted to the court.

Litro Gas will increase tomorrow

Litro Gas Lanka Chairman Muditha Peiris is set to announce the new domestic gas price revision tomorrow (04) as it recorded the highest price per metric ton of gas in the world market.

Peiris highlighted the significant increase of over 103 US dollars per metric ton of gas in the international market.

In light of these higher global prices, there will be a revision of domestic gas prices.

“The gas price will increase tomorrow due to global prices,” he said.

In July, Litro Gas earlier announced the reduction of the retail price of a 12.5kg domestic Litro gas cylinder to Rs. 2,982. The 5 kg gas cylinder was brought to Rs. 1,198, and the retail price of the 2.3 kg cylinder was brought to Rs.561.

Asia Cup Super 4s to be moved out of Colombo?

The Super 4 stage matches of the Asia Cup, which are scheduled to be played in Colombo from September 9, could be moved to a different venue, with Pallekele and Hambantota the likely alternatives.

Discussions between the Asian Cricket Council and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are ongoing, an SLC official speaking to the Daily Mirror confirmed.

“A decision will be taken tomorrow or the day after,” the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said adding that Dambulla was not one of the venues being considered.

Torrential rains in Colombo this week have raised concerns that the matches down the crucial stretch of the tournament could be hampered, with Saturday’s India-Pakistan clash in Pallekele also being washed out after India completed their innings, batting first.

Thunderstorms have been forecast in Colombo next week, with indications that it may continue until and beyond September 17, the day of the tournament final.
