DIESL AND PETROL SHORTAGES AGAIN IN SRI LANKA

SL again faces diesel & petrol shortages

The Ceylon Petroleum Distributors and Private Tanker Owners Association said that adequate diesel and petrol stocks are not being released from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) at the moment.

Even though the filling stations make orders to purchase fuel, the CPC has informed that they are unable to provide enough fuel.

Therefore, there is a shortage of fuel all over the country again, the Co-Secretary of the Association D. V. Shantha Silva said.

He said that many filling stations were closed due to lack of fuel.Meanwhile, the Filling Station Owners’ Association said that most of the filling stations have no diesel and petrol is very limited.

A CPC spokesperson said that there is a rapid shortage of fuel stocks and therefore, the release of fuel has been restricted. He highlighted the importance of immediate arrival of fuel ships.Against this backdrop, Lanka Private Bus Owners Association Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said that even less than 7,000 buses operated yesterday (25) due to lack of sufficient diesel.
