Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa’s sister, Dulanjalee Jayakody has decided to take legal action against National People’s Power (NPP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake over defamatory statements.
A letter issued by Dulanjalee Jayakody’s lawyer states that legal action is being initiated against statements made by MP Dissanayake pertaining to a financial transaction involving Jayakody in 2017.
“An individual had pleaded guilty at the High Court in May 2017 for illegally printing forged currencies and handing them over to Dulanjalee Jayakody in lieu of a business transaction. Dulanjalee Jayakody was also awarded a compensation of Rs. 2 million by the High Court in July 2017,” the letter stated.
Stating that MP Dissanayake seems neither privy nor chooses not to be aware or informed of the matter, the letter, accuses the NPP leader of insinuating that the said matter was not properly tried or heard before Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya.
The letter also accuses MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake of circulating false information and derogatory statements on social media platforms pertaining to the said incident in a bid to manipulate the opinion of the public.
The letter added that, thereby, Dulanjalee Jayakody intends to initiate legal action against the NPP leader for defamatory statements. (NewsWire)
