St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya won their first Schools Rugby League title since 2010, defeating defending champions Isipathana College by 28 points to 17, at the St. Peter’s College Grounds in Bambalapitiya.

St. Peter’s ran in four tries, one of which were converted, to go with three penalties, while Isipathana scored two converted tries and a penalty.

The meant St. Peter’s completed the season undefeated, a rare feat in schools rugby.

Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, Media Spokesperson of the Government Medical Officers’ Association stated that nearly five thousand more doctors will meet the necessary qualifications to go abroad.
He noted that once they go for that training, the medical shortage will further worsen.

The Ministry of Health says that steps have been taken to provide many facilities for the consultants who are rehired on contract basis.

Its Deputy Director General of Health Services, Dr. G. Wijesuriya said that about 400 consultant doctors have left the country in the past.

He also said that there are currently vacancies of nearly 500 consultant doctors.

Mr. Timothy Fernando – the father of Ms. Kumari Fernando has passed away. Ms. Fernando is the co-editor of the ‘Meepura’ website as well as a committee member of the Professional Web Journalists’ Association (PWJA).

Mr. Fernando’s remains are currently at No. 219, Suduwella Road, Kolinjadiya, Wennappuwa and the funeral will be held tomorrow (20) at the Sirigampala Public Cemetery at 4.00pm.
