A vehicle for every family in 10 years: NPP’s Nalin Hewage
National People’s Power (NPP) member Nalin Hewage claims that within 10 years, the NPP will build an economy in Sri Lanka that will allow each family in the country to own a vehicle.
Speaking at a public gathering, he noted that in foreign countries, a vehicle can often be bought with a month’s salary. However, in Sri Lanka, the majority of the public cannot afford a vehicle even with their lifelong savings.
“A Toyota Vitz can be imported for Rs. 1.2 million, which is affordable, but the heavy taxes make it costly. It’s not the price of the vehicles that prevents people from buying them; it’s the excessive taxes,” he said.
“We are confident that within 10 years, we can create an economy that enables each household in this country to own a vehicle,” he added. )
