FINANCE MINISTRY TO IMPOSE A SPECIAL COMMODITY LEVY ON MANY IMPORTED FOOD ITEMS

Special commodity levy on several import

The Finance Ministry has decided to impose a special commodity levy on several imported items.

The items include grapes, apples, oranges, dates and yoghurt.

A special commodity levy of Rs. 1,000 per kg has been imposed on yoghurt, butter and spreads manufactured using milk.

A special commodity levy of Rs. 400 per kg has been imposed on all varieties of cheese while a levy of Rs. 200 per kg is imposed on dates (dried and fresh), oranges, grapes (dried and fresh), apples and other imported fruits.This special levy will remain in effect for a period of 06 months from March 10, 2022.
