A couple was arrested from the Galpatha area in Kalutara North police division, for allegedly printing counterfeit currency notes, the police said.

The suspects were arrested on Friday (12) after a shopkeeper in the area had complained to police about a woman arriving in a three wheeler had bought goods after producing a fake Rs. 5000/- note.

Following further investigations, police have arrested the three wheeler driver and the woman, who happen to be husband and wife, both aged 47 years old. 

Police have also recovered eleven Rs. 5000/- notes and a printer used for printing the fake currency from the couple’s house in Kalutara South area.
