13 arrested for sexually abusing Spanish girl
The Kayts Police have arrested 13 youths on charges of sexually abusing a Spanish girl who was visiting the Kovilan Point Lighthouse in Jaffna.
The suspects have been ordered to be remanded until today (26) after being produced in the Kayts Magistrate’s Court.
On the 22nd, the young woman had visited the lighthouse with her Sri Lankan boyfriend on a motorcycle.
The young woman was abused by a group of young men who were consuming alcohol while celebrating the birthday of one one them in a field next to the lighthouse.
The young men had threatened the boyfriend of the Spanish girl and had abused her.
The boyfriend had ultimately rescued his girlfriend and lodged a complaint with the Karainagar Police.
Accordingly, the Kaytes Police have arrested 10 suspects at the location. Three suspects who fled the scene have surrendered to the Kaytes Police on the 23rd.
All 13 suspects are residents of the Karainagar area.
