FOR SHARING CONTENT LINKED TO “MAAVEERAR NAAL” THREE ARRESTED

Three arrested over sharing content linked to ‘Maaveerar Naal’, online

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) have arrested 03 persons over allegedly sharing content related to the LTTE’s ‘Maaveerar Naal’ commemorative events, via the Facebook social media network.

The suspects, aged 28, 35, and 45, are residents of Maradana, Chunnakam, and Baddegama.

According to the police, they have posted the aforementioned content of previous years as commemorative events of this year.

The suspects were taken into custody under charges of inciting public unrest, promoting the activities of a proscribed organization, and disseminating false information via social media. The arrests were made under Section 120 of the Penal Code and Section 27 of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act No. 48 of 1979.

The CID and the TID are conducting further investigations.
