26-yr. old sentenced to life for smuggling heroin to prison
A 26-year-old youth has been sentenced to life imprisonment for smuggling more than 25 grams of heroin into prison.
Colombo High Court Manjula Thilakaratne gave the verdict today (Jan. 10) after a lengthy trail.
The youth had concealed the heroin in a food container which he had taken for his friend at the Colombo Remand Prison in December 2019.
He was subsequently arrested by Prison intelligence officials after which the Attorney General had filed charges of possession and peddling.
