New indoor stadium & swimming pool for Vavuniya District
The Indoor Stadium and Swimming Pool of the Vavuniya District Sports Complex, completed by the Department of Sports Development, were vested with the sportsmen and sportswomen of the area today.
According to the Sports Ministry, the measures were taken on the directive of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, in her capacity as the Sports Minister.
The new additions to the sports complex were handed over to the sportsmen and sportswomen during a simple ceremony that preceded traditional religious blessings.
The Director General of Sports, Professor (Rear Admiral) Shemal Fernando, the District Secretary of Vavuniya, P. A. Saratchchandra and government officials of Vavuniya were present at the occasion.
The fully-fledged Indoor Stadium had been completed to cater to all indoor games such as Volleyball, Netball, Kabaddi, Karate, Badminton, and Gymnastics.
The 25-meter Swimming Pool will be mainly available to schoolchildren of the entire Vavuniya District.
