Candidates arrested for violating election laws
According to police spokesperson – DIG Nihal Thalduwa, they were arrested on the charges of distributing leaflets, displaying posters and banners, and staging protests at police stations to free suspects.
Eleven candidates contesting the 2024 General Election have been arrested for flouting election laws, police say.
He also added that 353 supporters were arrested for violating election laws.
Postal voting ended today (Nov. 08) and campaigning is to end on Monday midnight (Nov. 11).
2,033 complaints
Meanwhile, the Election Commission states that the number of complaints received from Sep. 26 – Nov. 07 with regard to the 2024 General Election, has surpassed the 2,000 mark.
Out of the 2,033 complaints, the National Centre for Election Complaint Management received 475, while the District Centres for Election Complaint Management received 1,613. All complaints were categorized as breaches of laws, with 20 incidents of violence being reported.
