Ranjan acquitted from financial fraud case

A court case filed against popular actor Ranjan Ramanayake, accusing him of promising marriage and committing financial fraud against a teacher in Kandy, ended in his favour yesterday (12 June).

The former parliamentarian was acquitted when the case appeared before Kandy Chief Magistrate Chamara Wickramanayake.

The case was filed based on a complaint made by a teacher in Kandy to the Kandy police, stating that he had promised to wed her and committed a fraud of Rs. 1 Mn. The case was taken up in courts for a period of  nearly 13 years.
