The National STD/AIDS Control Programme (NSACP) said 568 HIV-positive people have been diagnosed so far this year and 90 people were detected in November.
NSACP Director Dr. Rasanjali Hettiarachchi said the detection of infected people has increased with the introduction of HIV self-testing kits.
HIV self-testing kits are available from STD clinics all over the country and those who do not wish to visit clinics can order a kit at home through the know4sure.lk website.

Nineteen unmarried couples, including ones from the same family, had been legally married on the same day in Yatinuwara.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is probing the brutal murder of businessman Dinesh Schaffter, the director of a leading insurance company in the country, Sri Lanka Police said in a statement.
The 51-year-old was found tied inside his vehicle at the General Cemetery in Borella last evening (Dec 15) and was rushed to the ICU of National Hospital in Colombo. He passed away while undergoing treatment.
