IF SUFFICIENT COAL STOCKS ARE AVAILABLE NO POWER CUTS NEEDED UNTIL DECEMBER -CHAIRMAN PUCSL

No power cuts needed until December!

Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) – Janaka Ratnayake has said that if sufficient coal stocks are there, power cuts would be unnecessary until December, as reservoirs are sufficiently full.

Speaking at a media briefing today (08), he has said that the electricity demand has gone down.

“Even though we announced daily power cuts of one hour last week, we did not actually implement it. There have been no cuts since Sep. 03 due to decreased demand levels. The supply has increased on Sep. 05 and has exceeded the demand. So, if any coal related issues do not arise within the next 2-3 months, we will not even need to implement at least an hour long power cuts. If there are sufficient coal and water levels in reservoirs, no power cuts will be necessary,” he adds.
